About Our Job

The Street Maintenance Division of Public Works has multiple vacancies for Heavy Equipment Operators. Most of these positions will be involved in paving, operating Asphalt Rollers, Motor Graders and Front End Loaders. We will be testing on the Motor Grader at our Roslyn campus (5440 Roslyn, Denver 80216) the week of July 10th; the exact date has not been scheduled. People qualifying for this position will be contacted by phone or email to schedule you for performance testing.

Operate heavy construction and earth moving equipment in all environments for which the equipment is used.
Perform inspections of equipment to ensure proper working order, which includes checking fluid levels and leaks, condition of hoses and belts, tire pressure, brakes, lights, and other related mechanical components as required by the City and/or the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles.
Assist in the preventive maintenance of equipment such as adding oil, greasing zerks and joints, changing bulbs, and changing air filters, etc.
Perform general laboring duties for projects to which the equipment is assigned.
Complete daily work reports and paperwork as required.
Observe all safety practices associated with the operation of equipment, and common hand and power tools.
Act as a lead worker, training, assigning, and overseeing the work of other personnel.
Mandatory participation in snow removal duties.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

About You

In order to be considered for these positions and to test, you must have a  current CDL B and at least 400 hours within the last 7 years on Asphalt Rollers, Motor Grader and/or Front End Loaders. 100 of those hours must be on Motor Grader.
This experience must be documented on your application in the Work History. 

Education Requirement:
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate or one additional year of the required work experience.
Experience Requirement:
Two years of experience operating equipment at the Heavy Equipment Operator level which must have included experience on at least two different kinds of equipment at this level.(Motor Grader, Front End Loader, 
700 hours of Heavy Equipment Operator differential.(City Employees)
Three years of experience as an Equipment Operator Specialist in the Career Service system.
Licensure & Certification:
Requires a Class B Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements at the time of application, and license must be kept current as a condition of employment.
Requires Air Brake (L) endorsement.
